Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has this afternoon surprisingly floated the possibility that Harry Kane may not make a return to the pitch this season.

Spurs fall at Southampton

Mourinho’s men visited St. Mary’s two weeks ago, for a Premier League meeting with Southampton.

The north Londoners headed into the clash in search of a bounce-back performance, after being held to a disappointing 2-2 draw by bottom-of-the-table Norwich in their preceding outing.

When the 90 minutes were said and done, however, Spurs failed to get back on track.

A dismal performance on the part of the visitors eventually saw Southampton emerge with all 3 points.

A solitary Danny Ings strike with 17 minutes on the clock proved the difference between the sides, as Tottenham’s top-4 hopes were dealt a blow.

Kane crocked

Their result at St. Mary’s, however, proved far from the only concern for the Lilywhites.

After Tanguy Ndombele was forced off early on, Harry Kane followed suit 20 minutes from time.

The English international stretched to get on the end of a Spurs free-kick into the hosts’ box, and actually managed to find the net.

However, Kane immediately pulled up clutching his hamstring, before limping straight down the tunnel at Carrow Road.

Adding insult to injury was the fact that the striker’s goal was disallowed for offside.

And, on the back of an anxious wait, it was subsequently that Kane had suffered a torn hamstring.

A further update last week, meanwhile, revealed that the 26-year-old was set to be forced under the knife, to fully resolve the problem.

As such, Kane was ruled out until April.

‘April, May, next season…’

If the latest of Jose Mourinho are anything to go by, however, then Spurs may be without their star man for even longer than has been suggested.

Speaking in a press conference a short time ago, ahead of his side’s FA Cup meeting with Middlesbrough tomorrow evening, Mourinho was asked for an update on Kane.

And, surprisingly, the Tottenham boss revealed that the timeline on his striker’s recovery remains very much up in the air as things stand, hinting that Kane could be confined to the sidelines until next season:

‘News on Harry, we don’t have and if you ask me every time we come here the answer will be the same. We expect him to be out until mid-April, end of April, May, next season. I don’t know.’
