Former Manchester United star Roy Keane has this afternoon provided his take on Harry Maguire’s start to life at Old Trafford.

Maguire’s United switch

On the back of months of rampant speculation, the Red Devils finally confirmed the signing of powerhouse stopper Maguire from Leicester City at the beginning of last month.

The English international’s addition was long-viewed as an essential piece of business on the part of the Old Trafford hierarchy, with the long-term injury picked up by Eric Bailly having no doubt sped up negotiations on United’s part.

‘One or two question marks’

Maguire went on to enjoy a dream start to life in the colours of United, starring in a Man of the Match display on his competitive debut versus Chelsea.

The weeks since, though, have seen both Maguire and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men brought firmly back down to earth.

United have failed to pick up 3 points in any of their last 3 outings, versus Wolves, Crystal Palace or Southampton.

These matchups also saw the Red Devils fail to keep a single clean sheet, with the club’s back-line having reverted back to their shaky form of seasons past.

And one individual who feels as though Maguire has been far from blameless in United’s recent struggles is club legend Roy Keane.

Speaking on ITV last night, Keane revealed that he still has reservations over Maguire’s defensive abilities, with his ‘pace on the turn’ a particular concern:

‘I think he’s done OK.’

‘We were talking about how good he is on the ball, but defensively I still think he’s… I still have one or two question marks over him.’

‘I always worry about his pace on the turn. I remember the first goal against Crystal Palace where he’s not doing the basics – covering round his other centre-half.’

‘Listen he’s 26 years of age now, you’re worried if you’re pointing these things out to him.’
