Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the press ahead of Tottenham’s match with Spanish giants Barcelona on Wednesday evening.

Tottenham’s fixture pile up

Pochettino discussed several topics but one thing he was particularly upset about is the fact Spurs have to play four games in nine days from the 29th of October to the 6th of November.

Spurs have to face Premier League Champions Manchester City on October the 29th, which in itself will be a very tough game.

The very next day, Tottenham must travel to West Ham United to face them in the League Cup.

Then on Saturday the 3rd of November, Spurs are away to newly-promoted Wolves, another tough test.

To cap off a horrible nine days for Spurs, they then face PSV in the Champions League on Tuesday the 6th of November.

Tottenham vs Barcelona

Tottenham’s next game is against Barcelona on Wednesday.

Pochettino has been speaking about the game and how to stop Lionel Messi.

“It’s very clear, very simple, we need to be near him when he gets the ball. If we leave him space he will get away from his marker.

“What we need is to have players helping each other. We need to demand sacrifice and they will expend a lot of energy.

“I’ve been asked this many, many times. Every time I say an answer it can interpreted differently so today I want to be clear.

“I think it would be impossible for me to manage Barcelona. It is emotional. I am linked to Barcelona through Espanyol. It would be like Messi playing for Espanyol.

Of course I prefer to have all the players available to play but I’m not going to say we don’t have chances to win because it’s Barcelona.

“I am not the victim and I won’t be the victim in football or life. If we don’t win then it’s because Barcelona were better. If we win it’s because we’re a team, just with different names.”
